Look beautiful for your maternity photo shoot! Pregnancy is a special time of your life and for many women, (although you may not feel like it) you are at your most natural, feminine and beautiful self. During your pregnancy, your hair is rich and thicker, your breasts are fuller, your skin is glowing and your body has more curves. For many expecting mothers, there’s no better way to remember their pregnancy and chronicle their journey to motherhood than a professional maternity photo shoot. Here are a few tips to help you look and feel your best in your maternity photo shoot.

For expecting mamas with singletons, a good time to do your maternity photos when you are 28 – 36 weeks along. Your belly is full but you are still comfortable to pose. For expecting mamas with twins (or more), come in earlier around 26 – 32 weeks as twins tend to arrive much earlier than singletons. I will occasionally take on last minute maternity session, this is subject to availability.

Most mama's don't tend to have photoshoot experience, but I assure, you that you'll be a professional once we're done. When it comes to posing, trust me to guide you so you look your best. What makes maternity photos different from other portraits is that the images focus on you, your personality, feelings and the bond you have with your much-awaited baby. Many maternity poses such as hands on the belly and eyes looking down express emotions and connection to your belly. Other maternity poses empathize the beautiful curves of your body.

I highly recommend having your hair, makeup and nails professionally done for your maternity session. Maternity sessions are all about documenting the connection between you and your growing baby, but they're also a great opportunity to pamper yourself. When you look and feel your best, it shows in your photos!

For clothing, form fitting dresses photograph beautifully, as well as long flowy maxi dresses.. You'll have access to a variety of wraps and dresses in studio. Please bring along neutral toned panties (thong or boy shorts) and bra. If you have a lace bra and panty set, I recommend bringing that along as well. If you'd like to do tastefully nude photos, please advise me prior to your session -- these images are never shared online. It's a good idea to bring along a pair of Calvin Klein underwear for casual black and white photos. I recommend the thong bottoms. A loose fitting male or oversized dress shirt (white), chunky sweaters, lace dresses all work really well. Form fitting tops and REGULAR jeans (not maternity) work great too, wear anything that shows off your belly. Please avoid wearing clothing that has patterns, logos or distracting lines. Plain clothes works best, we want the focus to be on your belly.

If your partner or children are participating in the session, try to coordinate with each other without being too matchy-matchy, jeans with a variety of neutral tones shirts or dresses work best for family photos.
